2 weeks in little Germany

Well finally I have got some time to make a little post about my trip so far! Things have been pretty hectic - running around seeing friends - drinking lovely gluhwein at the Christmas markets and of course spending time with the lovely Robin.. awwwwww :)

Leaving Sydney was an absolute nightmare - you know those scenes in movies where they are doing the last call for the flight and they havent even checked in yet and the main actor is doing the massive bolt through the airport with a trench coat and hat jumping queues and all that dramatic stuff? ...yup, that was me - just replace the trench coat and hat with a big puffy winter jacket.

22 hours or so later I arrived in Frankfurt (yes, I made the flight). Robin was waiting there for me and it was so strange to see him after 11 months - it took about 15 minutes to settle in with one another and after that it was back to normal :) Then it was a nailbiting 3 hour drive on the autobahn back to Jena. I really don't like the autobahn. Robin was very considerate and he stayed in the slow lane with an average speed of 130kms while everyone else flew past at over 170kms.

Christmas Markets in MunichWe spent three days in Munich. It was raining and absolutley miserable. It's hard to like any city that much when this is your first impression of it - but we tackled the rain and mud and continued on like good little tourists. We visited the christmas markets on our first night - this was really nice and thankfully the rain stopped for us that evening. The next night was spent at the opera (yes darlings..) where we saw 'Carmen'. It was really beautiful and the set design was amazing. The only problem was that it was all in German, yup they even dub the opera! Hence I understood not terribly much - but was at least able to enjoy the music.

The weather eventually cleared up for us and we had a nice chance to see Munich in a nicer light. We spent our third day walking from museum to museum. The first place was the Pinakothek. This design museum is housed in the most amazing building. The picture is what you see when you look above you. I think I loved the building more than I liked the exhibitions!

I'm in a bit of rush now so I will just upload the rest of the pics here for you with a little explanation :)

Here we are in funny hats at the Christmas markets in Munich :)

Here I am by the river Isar in Munich

Back in Jena - We had a nice walk in the hills :)

And here is Jena from the top of the hill.

Okay and now I must head to bed as we have big day tomorrow! See you all when I am back on Monday! Hi from Robin! Bye!!

First Post

Here is my first ever post on my very own blog! I have meant to do this for years! It was only that a friend Mark has a blog and I wanted to post a comment on his site but I could not post unless I had signed up with eBlogger. This usually brings a huge amount of frustration to me (eg Sydney Morning Herald grrrr), but this time it was the push I needed to get myself blogging :)
